Scholarship Details​

Brandon Morris & Dewana Quarker Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the late Brandon Morris and Dewana Quarker, residents of Midland, Texas. Both Morris and Quarker were members of Goodwill Baptist Church, active in their communities and soaring scholars who stood strong in their Christian beliefs.  This scholarship is created to assist students with equipment, supplies, tuition, fees and other necessities to achieve their academic goals and reduce their hardship. One $1000 scholarship will be awarded each year to outstanding high school senior enrolled in college or enrolling in college.​

Criteria and Guidelines​

1. Each applicant must be enrolled in an accredited college or technical preparation program. Proof of enrollment must be included with this application.​

2. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior designated as a Goodwill Baptist member with minimum GPA of 2.5.​

3. Complete the application form.​

4. Provide high school transcripts with official HS imprint. (DO NOT FAX.)​

5. Provide a detailed description of participation in any academic, honorary, civic or extracurricular activities in college.​

6. Compose an essay of no more than two typed, double-spaced 8 1/2'' x 11'' pages. The essay must include the following:
o Applicant’s personal educational beliefs.
o Who influenced the applicant the most in making his or her career decision?
o Why the applicant is applying for the award?​

7. Provide at least two (but no more than three) letters of recommendation, from high school faculty or other appropriate sources. Limit each letter to one official letterhead page. Letters should include the author’s address and Saturday phone number. Authors must mail letters of recommendation directly to Goodwill Baptist Church: ATTN Morris and Quarker Memorial Scholarship.​

8. Scholarship recipients shall be provided with $1000, which will be paid directly to the college for any legitimate expense involving college tuition and education materials.​

Judging Process​

The scholarship Board of Directors will select scholarship recipients, who will be acknowledged at the 2013 scholarship ceremony in June.​

Timeline​

1. All entries must be postmarked no later than June 13, 2015, if mailed, or by midnight on the same date if faxed or emailed. The committee will not consider late or incomplete submissions. The final judging process will occur in June 5 and applicants receiveing the scholarship will be contacted.​

2. Recipients are required to use all funds awarded within a calendar year of the date of presentation.​
