OUR PASTOR
Called to ministry in 1987, under the leadership of Dr. H. B Johnson Senior in El Paso, Texas, Pastor Johnson began his ministry as a speaker and a musician, sharing the gospel in cities throughout the nation. In 2010, he was called to the pastorate of Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, a historical beacon in Midland, Texas for over fifty eight years. Beginning with less than 100 members in 2010, membership at Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church now exceeds 300 people. Pastor Johnson has assembled an anointed leadership team, of ministers that tend to the needs of the congregation. Considering his humble beginnings, there are over 15 active ministries. Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church is making a difference in the lives of its parishioners and the community.
His vision is centered around one pivotal point; to build and develop a kingdom of empowered people for God. OUR CHURCH
The Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church was founded and organized in the home of the Rev. & Sis. N.H. Lathan, in 1954 at 400 South Madison St., where they had bible study and prayer meetings. Then a lot was purchased at 410 South Calhoun, and a building was moved there. Later, another lot was purchased and a dining room was built. Rev. Lathan pastored the church for 14 1/2 years. After Rev. Lathan resigned, the Rev. Bernice Wilson presided as the minister for six months.
On the 2nd Sunday of February 1968, Goodwill Baptist Church called the Rev. A.W. Washington. Under the pastorship of Rev. Washington in 1978, the church grew spiritually and financially. God blessed us with this present building. In June 1982, the Lord blessed us with a 48 passenger silver eagle bus, new refrigerator/freezer for our Fellowship Hall. After the passing of Rev. Washington in June 1984, pastors were called and in 2010 Pastor Kenneth Johnson was our elected Senior Pastor. The church family has grown tremendously in numbers since Pastor Johnson's installment. The spirit of God is upon us. There’s power in the name Jesus. The Goodwill family is blessed to have Pastor Johnson who is a good teacher, leader, but most of all, he is a chosen man of God.
We, the family of Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, can truly say, look how far the Lord has brought us, 59 years, and we've come too far to turn around, and we definitely serve a mighty good God.
At Goodwill we serve a true and living God, and the church that builds people. We are here lifting up His Holy and Righteous Name! “It’s A New Season”
